While you can enlist the help of the other bridesmaids, the bulk of the party planning will fall on your shoulders as maid of honor. Not only will you have to plan everything, but you also have to coordinate everyone’s schedules and sift through party ideas.

Saving money is often a top priority for the bride and groom. After all, weddings are incredibly expensive. If they start talking about DIY flowers or handmade centerpieces, know that you’ll likely end up the captain of these projects. Carve out a big chunk of your schedule for DIY projects.

You’ll Need Time For Shopping Trips

This is one of the most fun aspects of being a maid of honor. The bride will want someone to come along to look at dresses or taste sample wedding cakes. You’re her go-to gal!

You’re There to Say “Yes”

The wedding is all about the bride. While she may want things that you’d never have for your own wedding, just remember that this is for her. Get used to saying “yes.”

You’re in Charge of Damage Control

On the big day, keep an eye on the schedule. The bride will have enough to worry about, so you’ll act as a surrogate wedding planner making sure the food has arrived on time, the boutineers are pinned properly and all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen are ready to walk the aisle.

If you’re afraid of public speaking, it’s time to get over it. As the maid of honor, one of your duties is to give a toast. This may happen at the wedding reception or the groom’s dinner the night before. Either way, make sure you prepare something both funny and heart-warming.
