Put Your Passion into Your Wedding and Live "Hobbily" Ever After!
by Susan Hawkins

How did you and your soul mate meet? At a photo exhibit? A golf tournament? A wine-tasting event? Perhaps your eyes locked in a cooking class, or at a rock concert? When the time comes to say your wedding vows, why not celebrate the common interest that brought you together with a hobby-themed wedding? The properly planned theme wedding can be as much fun for your guests as it will be for you! Let's look at a couple of hobby-related wedding ideas certain to make that once-in-a-lifetime day uniquely yours.

If golf is your passion, a spring or summer wedding is the right time of year. Instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner, hold a golf tournament for your wedding party and out-of-town guests. Have your reception at a country club in a banquet room with a spectacular view of the golf course. For a smaller wedding, perhaps you have friends whose home is located on a golf-course. Your colors should be green and white, with touches of red and yellow. Print an elegant invitation on card stock that has a pattern similar to the indentations of a golf ball with a sheet of vellum paper to soften the look. Glue tiny pearl "golf balls" to the top of the invitation to continue the theme. An all-white bridal bouquet will resemble a golf ball. Use green, indoor/outdoor carpeting as an aisle runner. At the reception, use different-shaped green placemats to simulate different greens for your food trays. Wedding favors can include golf-themed place card holders or golf-ball bottle openers. The possibilities are endless, and your "stroke" of genius will score well with your guests.

Of course, there are low-key couples who come together at a wine tasting over an exclusive bottle of French wine, admiring its bouquet and perfect body.  A few dinners accompanied by glasses of well-chosen wines, and you're ready to toast to your lives together. The wine-themed wedding can be a most elegant affair. Begin with invitations that set the stage - designed with a bottle of wine and two glasses, or tasteful grape clusters on a vine. Include a wine tasting at the rehearsal dinner, held at a restaurant known for its impeccable wine selection. Favors at the rehearsal-dinner tables may include heart-shaped bottle stoppers or cork screws. Consider a destination wedding at a Napa vineyard, where your ideal wedding décor awaits. Dress your bridesmaids in gowns of burgundy or champagne. Bouquets should include flowers and grape clusters, which should also adorn your wedding cake. Have a variety of wines for your guests at the reception, where glass grape place cards beckon them to their table and champagne flutes adorned with "happy couple" tuxedos and bridal veils stand ready to toast to your lives together.

Hobby-themed weddings are easy and fun to plan. They also put an added zip in your wedding photos and videos - recalling how your love story began and affirming that you were meant to be together.
