Valentine’s Day is approaching, and whether you’re having a fancy date night out or a relaxing night at home with your other half, you want to get dolled up. This means go above and beyond the basic manicure–and it doesn’t have to be complicated. You can create a fun heart-tipped manicure at home with just two nail polishes and reinforcements for hole-punched notebook paper (they look like mini doughnuts in shape and have one sticky side).

To start, file your nails into an oval shape and paint two thin coats of a baby pink polish on your nails. Make sure they’re completely dry before moving forward to the next step.

For a baby pink shade, we like Butter London Nail Lacquer in Teddy Girl, $15, sephora.com:

To create the heart shape, use two of the hole-punch reinforcements at the tip of your nail so they overlap. Using a very fine paintbrush, outline the curves of the overlapping reinforcements with a bright red to create the top of the heart. Remove the reinforcements carefully and then fill in the tip of your nail with the darker red color. Seal everything in with a super shiny to coat for a flashy and fun Valentine’s Day manicure you’ll love.

For the tip, we like Formula X for Sephora New Classics in Dynamite Red, $10.50, Sephora.com
