Whether you’re the bride or a guest, you’ll want to do your makeup to go along with this fun theme. But what if you don’t have a lot of time to learn new makeup tricks? These tips will help you quickly transform your regular makeup routine into an awesome retro wedding style. Just incorporate them into the routine while still keeping the mascara and eye shadow how you normally like them.

  1. Darken and define your eyebrows. Though eyebrows ranged from super thin to relatively thick in the ’20s through ’40s, they all had one thing in common: they were super dark and defined. Use an eyebrow pencil a shade or two darker than your natural eyebrow color and fill them in.
  2. Go for a super pigmented lipstick. Many women shy away from loud lipstick colors, but why not try something outstanding for a retro-style wedding? Bright red lipstick works great for daytime weddings while dark, wine-colored lipsticks stand out better for nighttime or darkly lit indoor weddings.
  3. Accentuate your cheeks. Blush–or “rouge” as it was called then–was a makeup staple back in the day. Use a pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks. While the color should be noticeable, make sure to blend out the edges to avoid a harsh look.
  4. Master the liquid eyeliner. Dark black liquid eyeliner was the cat’s meow in the ’20s through ’40. Rock this liner on your top lid. For best results, draw a thick winged line. And, if you’re nervous about trying this technique, practice in the days leading up to the wedding. After all, practice makes perfect.

Now just pair that with some nice retro hairstyle and a vintage dress and you’re set–whether you’re the bride or a wedding guest.
