A wedding on a beach is something almost every girl dreams about at one point in her life. The romantic ceremony at sunset, the honeymoon somewhere tropical – your dreams can become reality easier than you’d think! Today we’re sharing inspiration for the beach wedding that you’ve been secretly planning since you were a little girl.
Choosing a Beach Wedding Location
If you live in a coastal area, choosing the location of your wedding ceremony and reception may be a little bit easier than for someone who is more land-locked. Look to your favorite beach spot or contact your favorite restaurant or resort on the beach about doing your wedding with them. Choose a spot that holds a dear memory or that fits with your personality and it will make the location of your ceremony and reception that much more special.
If you’re planning a destination beach wedding, think about your favorite beach vacation destinations or choose to have your wedding in a town you’ve always been dying to visit. Once you decide on a city (or country if you’re thinking outside of the USA), look for inspiration online at photos of weddings from that particular area and research the best places and vendors for your destination wedding.
The more personal ties you have to the location or destination, the more authentic your wedding will be – like you were meant to have your wedding there all along!
Your Beach Wedding Attire
One of the most exciting things about having a beach wedding is the laid-back attire. Because your wedding celebration will include sun, sand and water, you’ll want a wedding dress that’s a little bit lighter with less of a train, and you’ll want your groom and his groomsmen in attire that will be bearable in the heat.
For your dress, don’t be afraid to show some skin. A low back, lace overlays or cutouts look gorgeous on a beach wedding dress, and airy fabrics like organza will be your friend. And because a beach wedding calls for no shoes, find some gorgeous embellished sandals that compliment your dress and have you feeling comfortable throughout the ceremony and reception.
Don’t be afraid to let your groom and his groomsmen dress a little more casual than a normal wedding. A white button down shirt with some khaki or light gray pants is a laid back and comfortable look, and he can throw on a navy jacket or a matching vest for the ceremony or photos if you’re wanting to dress him up a bit more. The relaxed yet polished look is perfect for a beach wedding!
The Sea Inspired Details
Once you have your location picked and the attire taken care of, it’s time to focus on the details – the décor, the stationery, the wedding favors – everything that will add personality to your big day.
Incorporate the beach into as many details as you’d like. Soft blue and blush watercolor inspired invitations with some a sea inspired motif or monogram is the perfect way to set the tone for your wedding. Sandals with cute little personalized tags are the perfect way to encourage guests to kick off their shoes and get more comfortable on the dance floor, and custom glassware for your reception takes your bar area to the next level.
No matter the location of your beach wedding, make sure to add in as much of your personalities into the details of the day as possible and you’ll have the wedding you always dreamed about and one that you’ll remember for years to come.
